I need to know if the timing cover for a 231A (even fire) will work on the 225 in the jeepster. The engine fan came unbolted and caused a chain of events which resulted in a broken cover (the ear where the alternator tension arm attached)

Also, this engine has a lot of mileage on it (just shy of 300K). It still runs fair but is noisy and some of the spark plugs are stuck. Should I put a timing set in it or just put it back together and let it be? Rebuild isn't an option right now. I don't have the time.

Please help! The withdrawals are making me weaker by the minute:v6:

Yes. My 225 has the cover from my old EF 231 on it. Keep forgetting when I go to get an oil filter, that I need the small metric style ;) Just make sure you don't get one from a Front wheel drive 231, there is no fuel pump hole on those.

Hmmm... so I can't use the 225 oil pump? I have a 231 condition unknown. My 225 pump holds 40+ psi all the time. I'd like to use it if possible. Thanks for the reply!

Just replace the pil pump anyway IMO. Not that expensive.

Pump gears are the same, just the filter housing is different. The filter housings interchange too, so you could use the pump gears and filter housing from your 225 if you wanted. Just make sure you use the bolts that came with the 231, they are metric on some years.

I have a near perfect timing cover that came off of a 4.1L. I also have brand new Melling gears that came with my overhaul kit.

If interested, send me an email. I can let either or both of them go real reasonable.
