That's just an early test gold was deemed to heavy and expensive for a Jeep so cast iron was used. ;)

So thats why they're so rusty. I guess gold was beyond the pocket book of the intended market. A gun metal gray vht paint would probably look good though.:v6:

Although I'm not sure, powder coating in that color should "stick"

    Patrick,
You don't think the 1500* VHT paint would last?

    Phalanx,
POR-15 has an engine paint kit in the Buick Torquoise Blue that I'm buying, I don't know if its for use on manifolds though. Hey, did you want that back seat I offered. If not I have others interested.:v6:

POR 15 has exhaust coatings. That's what I would use.

Granny, I was joking about them being made of gold, you know the element Au not painted gold...

I know, note the pocketbook remark. Guess it was too dry.

I'm actually a little off on color. The VHT 1500* color would be Nu-cast iron SP-998 not gun metal gray.

    I need more :coffee:

Actually if you watch the banner here there's a pic of a Red CJ, :v6:, and a Dauntless engine that shows the manifolds in a silvery gray color.

Hey grannyscj, I just got the same thing from POR. I got the grey for the headers and the buick green engine kit. The grey high temp I used on the headers looks good. I have not installed them and let it run to bake the paint yet.

My experience with exhaust coatings--from walmart BBQ black, to VHT cast gray, to POR15 satin black, to JetHot coatings--is that they are temporary. Even my super expensive jet hot coating is showing some surface rust--apparently I am supposed to polish them every once in a while....

I sandblasted some big block chevy manifolds and painted them with the VHT--it was an EXACT color match, couldn't tell where the paint was and were the bare metal was...lasted about a month.

I used por 15 stuff on the glasspacks and tips on my -5, coming straight off the headers. Now this stuff actually lasted awhile, redid it once a year mainly for looks, but this is on the pipe, not the manifold.

My advice from a practical standpoint is use the cheapest stuff you can and plan to redo it bout once a year.
