Looking to do some mods to the jeep trailer. Its got a false deck on it. Someone added the steel deck plating to raise the deck upand back so the vehicle could be moved back another 8". I'm looking to take the decking off and use the original deck which is more than enough to support the jeep. The only thing is the trailer right now is really tounge heavy as it is and taking off the decking would make it more tounge heavy.

The axle on this thing is what someone else called a torsion bar? I made up a little drawing of it. Basicly, it has a square tube axle, and at the ends, it has a springy pivot point. Works pretty good.
What I was wondering is can I flip this thing around so instead of the torsion arms pointing backward like they are now, can I put this thing so the arms are facing forward, or is that just inviting trouble of some unknown engineering kind?

Just trying to get the wheels more forward so it balances out better. Right now not sure how easy it would be to move the whole axle forward. It would just be easier to unbolt the axle, flip it and bolt it back down. Otherwise I'd have to do some fabricating to suport it.

Brian I have 3 trailers with torflex axles 2 of them are tandem 1 is single the single is what I would call backward but it pulls fine
i buy from Croft trailer supply (www.crofttrailer.com) so i called them
and they wasen"t sure but didnt think it would make any difference.
    hope this helps

I have a boat trailer with that axle and i think you will have problems if you flip it around. If you hit a bump with it backwards the axle will want to move backwards and down causing the trailer to jump up. With the axle the proper way it will move back and upwards asorbing the bump.

Thats my worry about it being backwards, but I would think that a small bump would still push it back and up. Can't physically go down. The only thing I can think is if you hit a crater it "could" grab the wheel and keep it there?? Don't have the axle off the trailer or jacked up to see how much give it has.

The other question is, and i know I've seen car haulers with them, eliminate the torsion part of the axle and just go with a straight axle with no suspension. It would gain me a good 8-12" forward keeping the axle where it is now.
As long as you tied down to the axle and not the frame the jeep should be fine with no trailer suspension right? or is it better for the trailer to have something to bounce on?

I would prefer to have some sort of suspension under the trailer. I would think it would be extremly bouncy and tend to wander all over the road without it.
