Power Steering

    I'm sure this question has been asked before, but I'm new so forgive me. I am putting power steering on mine and am curious what bracket I should rob for my power steering pump. What make and model of car should I target at the bone yard?

    Welcome Aaron, glad you found us here. I didn't realize from your earlier email that you were looking for a pump bracket, I thought you were looking for a box-to-frame bracket.

    To answer your question, we need to know about your rig. What year, what engine??

    I have totally stripped down a 69 (actually it looks like it is probably a 68 released in 69). I am keeping the 225 for now and will see if it can handle the added weight of the rebuild. I have built a new frame, added wrangler springs, wagoneer 44 axles front and back, SM 420 transmission, split the body down the middle and added 11 inches, split it at the doors and added 9, split it at the rear wheel well and added 2...

    Essentially this is a fairly customized 69 CJ that is retaining only the engine and transfer case at this point (and the new and improved body).

    I have robbed the power steering box and bracket from the Waggoneer, I have not found the pump and bracket for the pump yet.

    There's a bunch of you out there. I wish I had known sooner. Does this give the info you need?

    Any late 70's Buick or Olds with a 231 V6. I think I pulled mine off a 77 Olds hatchback thing ;)

    Aaron, you can't tease us with a description like that without some pics!!

    Yep, as you said in your email, this IS a great resource. The best Jeepplace on the web! It's a friendly place with lots of knowledge and experience, and none of the attitude that is often seen on other boards.

    Where do you live Aaron? We might have members near you.

    I've only ever seen one Jeep that was split down the middle and widened. Made the grille look different, with twice as many slots in it!!

    Another resource is late 60's Buicks with the 350 Buick engine. Accessory brackets from that would bolt directly to the 225 (ps pump, a/c compressor).

    I'll get some pics soon. I wasn't prepared to meet you all, I know I should have them in my wallet ready to whip out at a moments notice. I haven't been as good as I should taking pictures on my rebuild, so they are few and far between. I am hoping to have it driveable in the next couple of weeks, there's just a lot to do and a lot to spend to get there.

    I'm in Boise Idaho and have been working on this project for a couple of years now on and off. This grille has the same slot pattern (stuck with 7), but I added width in the headlights. I should be able to fit duals, I'm thinking the wrangler insets would look the best...

    Full cage too. And a split window...

    How's that for teasing.

    You know how these things go. Next is a top and heater so that I can drive it in the rain and snow (like now...). More money, more time, more, more, more...
    Thanks to everyone on the power steering. It has turned out well. Also, thanks to this forum for the information needed to find and install my new distributor.
    Does anyone know how a supertrapp works on these motors? I don't have a lot of space.

    Nice Jeep! You did a fantastic job modifying it. When I read in your post that you had widened and lengthened your jeep, I had some horrible mental images of a hacked Jeep. I'm glad you posted the pics to clear things up!
