First time poster here.. Enjoyed reading through some of the old threads. I was wondering if one of you might help me on my way or lead me to my financial dimise R) , Im looking for parts for the 1966 CJ6 Ive just gotten, some simple ones at first but Im finding anything but simple answers...

1st it seems there arent many places that even know about a Cj6 they all seem to tell me I have a 5, and I have to explain to them it isnt a 5...Even the DMV ....So first kinda dumb question Are the parts for a 1966 CJ5 the same as a CJ6 in general, I know there has to be some differences...

But Im looking for some basic things, like boots for the shifters, hood latches, small things...Maybe even a seat cover or two, and most of what I find out there doesnt mention anything to do with a CJ6....

Anyhow, look forward to posting more....And thanks in advance for your time.

    Matt

I could be wrong, there's quite the knowlegable lot here, but I think the CJ6 is basically just longer, post TC. Things like shift boots and such should be the same, at least during a certain year group. But please wait for the CJ6 Gurus though, they'll give the best advice. Irregardless, WELCOME FROM OKLAHOMA.:v6:

Welcome aboard. There are a few 6s here and I'm sure others will chime in too. You are right in your assumptions. Most 6 parts are the same as 5 parts, and most of the local chain parts stores probably won't show a 6 in their books or computers. There are tons of parts distributors that will have what you are looking for. Ebay is a good source for some parts, as well a ton of other places. You can also post an ad in the wanted section if your looking for something more specific. Anyway, good luck and enjoy...

Other than frame length, tub length, and rear driveshaft length, they are the same...

Back when I had a 6, I even had the parts counter guy at a new Jeep dealer tell me there was no such thing "only 5's or 7's but no 6's". Of course I turned around and walked out. As several had mentioned, they are mostly the same. Welcome!

Welcome from Va. Like everyone already said a 6 is basicly an unlimited 5 to put it into modern Jeep terms.

CJ6's are the bastard child...;) Be prepared for complete cluelessness even amoung "hardcore" Jeepers. It'll get called a Scrambler or you'll be accused of cutting up a 5 and lengthening it yourself.

FWIW I run a CJ6 Blog which chronicles my transition from a 5 to a 6, but also any other 6's I run across as well.

I'm supposed to be getting a writeup soon on CJ6's in South Africa from a reader...should be interesting!

Wow....Thanks a ton for the great info already....And Boyink...What a Blog..Thats super...I can see many an hour in there...

I was just going to ask as well, you answered it already if anyone had some detail photo albums of their or other CJ6's for referrence and or ideas.....

Ive driven the 6 off and on for years, even when I was on the Darkside (1976 FJ40 Land Cruiser owner) I always admired & borrowed as often as possible the 6 as it was my father in laws...Even through some of its most troublesome times (The steering Wheel coming off in my Hands going around a corner in Dallas) I have enjoyed its slow turtle like pace and it classic long bed and the look with hardtop is priceless.

It has a few upgrades already like front locker, T90 tranny, headers, and a few other small ones. But has the origional Daunt in her still runs like a charm a few leaks here and there and of course the most annonying vacume line leeks in the impossible to appreciate no matter how objectivley I look at them wipers...need to do something about them...

But a year ago the father in law came to me, knowing we could use a second vehicle and asked if Id like to take her out of his storage and use it for a daily driver...Worked great till some electrical and wiring nightmares reared their ugly head and knocked it out of commision for the last9 months till time and money issues were done....Month ago came to me and asked if i would just like to buy it...i couldnt resist the no interest family payment plan R) ....But now as of yesterday shes legal again and on the road....

Gonna be 30-40 degrees here tomorrow and its only got a bikinni top and no doors, hard top is in storage still) but I think Ill toss on the carhart bibs and coat and take her for a ride.....

Thanks for all the help and sorry for the book....Matt

    Yep its hidden in there...

A lot of the problems have stemed from the crappy job with the headers...they laid part of the wiring across the top of them so its a nightmare from time to time...Matt

Are you sure that's a T90? I thought that shifter cane belonged to something else. Nice '6!

That's not a twin stick D18 shifter. So PTO or OD. ;)

Looks like a the shifters of a certain green JEEP I've worked on in Manhattan quite a bit that has an OD.
