Working on the jeep, stopped to have a:beer: and ask a question. I'm welding up all the holes left by the hardtop and decided to go ahead and pull the spare holder and weld up those when lo and behold there's no marker light stamp in the right side. Never crossed my mind. What's my options? Obviously its a little late for a stamp and I don't think I have the fab skills to make one (at least one I'd want anybody to see). Help me please!:? :v6:

They never had one on the passenger side, don't ruin it by trying to put one there.;)

Gotta do something. It just ain't gonna look right. Get rid of the one on the left? I'm doing a resto-mod with a theme and the spare mount is not going back on. Anybody ever cut one out of the left side of a donor and welded it into the right?

They look fine without it, mine never had a spare on the passemnger side and I have been driving mine for 13 years with the marker light that way. Its the way they were meant to be.
Anybody that knows anything about these old Jeeps is gonna know you messed with it, besides it adds character.

unless I'm mistaken, aren't they surface mounted, no indent for the rears?
if it is, it would be simple install
I would want both sides to match if it were mine

Yeah. There's an indent. I think I'm going to see if the left is symmetrical and cut one out of a donor and weld it in. Anyone that's done this please chime in.

Just looked at the pic of the three babes on the three different color renegades @ the top of our page and those all have marker lights on the pass side....but...there's no side mount spare either. I think if I were removing the side mount spare, I'd want the side marker to go back in that spot.

If you must, just remember theres a brace in there thats not in the drivers side.

No Jim there is an indent in the rear.
I thought I was anal, but in all these years adding that has never crossed my mind.
Until you mentioned it nobody had even noticed it.

John those were Renegades and they have no tailgate, maybe a different die, or a stick on marker.

Yeah the brace could be a problem. I think I'll have another  and watch some more racing and think about it.:v6:

    remove the brace
don't need it if your not using the side mount
drill the large hole for the bulb housing and wire
    just surface mount it
only see one side at a time anyway (ducking)

Your right, don't need the brace w/o the tire. Can still weld in the "bucket". It'll still be the same, just flip it 180.8)

I don't think that it would look too bad surface mounted. The way it looks to me is the brace will interfere if you have the socket towards the front. If you flip it around so that the socket part is towards the rear, it still shouldn't look bad and shouldn't interfere with the brace. That way all you need is the hole.

I like that, Lynn. Did you just cut out a place in your corner guards and mount the lights flat on the body panels?:v6:

I cut a hole for the bulb part of the housing, maybe 1" dia. into the corner guard and tub. There are 2 screws for the housing, I just drilled small holes for the screws(screws extend into the tub, they're about 1/2" long). Mounted the housing directly to the corner guard, not to the body panel.

You could, if you use diamond plate, knock down the diamonds with a grinder where the lens will sit, to get a flat mount against the corner. I did not do this, it was close enough for me.
