I need to find the Renegade decals for my CJ-5. I have looked on www.austinjeeps.com but his decals are not exactly like my originals. I have also looked at www.Collinsbrosjeep.com but they do not have them either. Anyone have any thoughts????

If someone can resize the pic (a bit computer inept today!!) I have a picture of the original decal.

    Thank you

You can resize pics real easy in MS Paint. Open up the picture in Paint, then select the "image" menu and select "Strech/Skew" . In the Strech section just change the size to something like 50% in both horizontal and vertical. Then save the picture with a new name and you're done.

"Skew" huh?? It was this easy the whole time??? Thank you for the photo advice!!

Here is a pic of my decals. They are different than the ones I have seen for sale. Mine come down at a 90 degree angle. The ones I have seen slant off to the back....

correct... the angled ones were on either very late 74 or 1975...

owned a 74 renegade purchased new (renegade yellow) and they were 90deg, neighbor bought a 75 and they were angled..

also, the V-8 emblem is usually seen in the bottom leg of the stripe, below 'jeep'.....

I will be looking for some of these 90 deg stripes also.... when we paint the 74 purple renegade for nephew....

see main forum page, 74 renegade at top of page (sometimes)

What's the paint code on this Jeep, 529? (Silver Green Poly) The '74 Renegades should only have come in Renegade Plum (509) or Renegade Yellow (510). The Renegade package also included the V8, heavy duty springs and shocks, gauges, solid back panel, and wheels. Not meaning to rain on your parade, but I suspect that your Jeep was not delivered as a Renegade. Besides the paint, the placement of the V8 and AMC badge on the fender makes me suspicious that the stripes were added by the dealer or a PO. I've never seen the badges placed on the fender like that, or the little square AMC badge anyplace but the tailgate ... plus, the AMC badge is mounted rotated - should be like this :AMC:

Sometime in '74, Jeep changed the raised letters on the cowl from the middle placement to lower on the body (see the Golden Eagle page). The squarish tapes may have been to accomodate the earlier '74s with the mid-placement letters.

What would you like to do? If it were mine, I'd probably eliminate the Renegade stripes and place the V8 badge below the letters, as in '72-3. With that color, I don't think the stripes add anything to the value of the Jeep ... a collector will want a Renegade with the 509 or 510 color codes. If you like them, and want to repaint the Jeep the same color, I expect you'll have to have the stripes made or find some NOS somewhere.

I am the fourth owner of this Jeep. The Third owner bought it in 1978 when it was four years old and they bought it to use as a plow Jeep. When I got it all the original things were there and she was a much neglected but basically stock, untouched Jeep.

I 100% believe it to be a factory Renegade. It had the flat back panel, aluminum rims, power steering, power brakes, ash tray, cigarette lighter and heavy duty leaf springs. It also has a back seat which I think was still an option at that point in time. I know the V8 and the AMC emblem are in an interesting place but remember AMC did a lot of funky things when building Jeeps.

Could the decals have been a dealer add on, sure. But when you look at all of the other anecdoctal evidence from the flat back panel to the rims, and decals etc.. it is all there for this Jeep to be a factory born Renegade.

The paint Code is 529 Silver Metalic. I repainted her in Fairway Green metalic. The Renegade Only Colors were just that you could only get those colors on a Renegade but your could order a Renegade in any color you wanted.

Oh, and I did put the emblems exactly where they were in the "before" picture. The Jeep had a 4 year professional restoration. Everything from the trans, engine, axles, ect.. was redone. I bought a nos widshield with dash, nos seatbelts and nos seats (nos = new old stock)from a former Jeep employee who owns a lot of Jeep parts. The tires shown in the picture are 32 year old Goodyear Suburbanite Wintermark tires w/ zero miles, they still have nubs! I have 32" Super Swampers on her for driving around!

Now if I can just find those Renegade Stripes....

we had a bunch of renegades around here back then... Mellow Yellow, White, Red, etc... even a couple of Super Jeeps.....

Some of these owners would buy a J series truck with a 401 and do the swaparoo ......

Some put about every option on them, Air Conditioning, console, the works...
Don't think any or many of them survive now... Been a long time since i saw the Super Jeep ...

And its been a long time since I have seen surburbanite tires!
What did U do with suspension?

For the suspension I had new ten leaf packs made that are similar to the originals. Rides a bit hard but not that bad!
