I am in the process of swapping a Ford EFI 5.0 V-8 into my '80 CJ-5. I had planned to use the radiator (2 core) out of the donor car (Crown Vic), but it's 8 inches wider than the inside measurements of the frame rails, meaning that if I used it I would have to chop back the grill shell about 3 inches, set it above the frame rails and have 2 inches of radiator protruding on either side of the grill shell on the bottom (where rocks and debris can hit and hurt it).

I have a Heavy Duty 6 cylinder radiator (3 core) in the CJ now , and it would probably only cost 50$ or so to have the inlet & outlets changed back to the original positions. (I had them swapped over to use with my Chevy 151)

I also have found a CJ 4 core HD V-8 radiator (new) for only 215$ locally with the benefit of having a lifetime warranty.
Are Ford and AMC V-8 engines similar, do they both have the inlet on the passengers side and outlet on the drivers side? Or will I have to get this radiator modified, and void the lifetime warranty?

    So, to sum up:

    Question
1: Should I go real cheap and use the donor cars 2 core radiator daspite having to shoe-horn it in?

2: Should I just be cheap and use the HD 6 cyl radiator I have now & hope for the best in our 105 degree summers?

3: Am I really lucky enough that the CJ-AMC V-8 HD Radiator will work with thr Ford V-8 without modifications?

Sorry about the seemingly noobie questions, but this is the first non-Chevy engine swap I have done.

    Thanks.

Also look into an aluminum radiator. Measure the approximate size and order one with the right hose locations. Fab a mount and go.

I'm trying to stay in a budget. The aluminium rads go for about 450$, so if I can get this HD 4core for 215$ that leaves me a couple hundred bucks for a high quality electric pusher fan to help keep cool at low crawling speeds. If I blow all the cash for the alum rad, I'm stuck with the belt driven fan.

You can get aluminum radiators pretty cheap. Check ebay or a place online called speedway racing (not sure of their web address), but they are like $175 and you can get ford or chevy configuration. Good luck.

Couldnt find Speedway racing on Google search. I would like to use the HD 4 core I found for sale here, but only if I dont have to have the inlet/outlets moved and void the warranty. So,,,, back to the original question. Do Ford and AMC/Jeep V-8's have the inlet/outlets in the same locations??

    Hey guys,
for future referance the AMC/Jeep & Ford V-8's have cooland inlet/outlets on the same sides and locations, so factory AMC/Jeep V-8 radiators are compatable with a Ford V-8 swap without modification. I wound up going with the AMC Heavy-duty 4 row dubbed the "Heat Buster" by it's manufacturer. Perfect fit!

    See ya on the trails...............
