    Kind of curious.....where on the block of the AMC V8 is the ID number located?

    I know the 258's are on the side of the engine block, but are they in the same spot for the V8's?

    Also, once i have the number, can someone decipher it for me? Kinda curious if this one is indeed a 360 or not.......

    If it’s an AMC 360 or 401 it will have the engine size cast into them on each side between the freeze plugs. Not sure how to tell the man-date if the tag is missing from the right side of the valve cover.

    AFAIK the tag on the valve cover is the only ID besides the displacement cast into the block. You may be able to learn more from the head casting numbers; those are on the net too, but I don't know specifically where they are (maybe the American Racing site? some AMC performance site).

    thanx for the links!!

    The valve cover tag is: 211N30

    Broken down:
    2=1969 model year
    11=November
    N= no clue
    30=30th day

    Anybody know what the "N" stands for? I know the "W" is for the 390
