Have you read the article(s) on the Novak site?
    http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/cj2a_swap.htm

V8 converstions were done a lot in the 60s and 70s, but today the V6 is more popular because it fits better. How about the 4.3L Chevy V6?

    Welcome from Boston!

Done with the V6 game? What happened to it? I guess it all depends on what you want to do with it but IMO, a V6 with 5:38's is nice package on a 2500 lb Jeep! I can idle over minor obstacles with the L-134. My gripe with mine is that the gearing and HP is poor on the dunes so I bought a 5 (see signature).

V8's fit with a shoe horn but in my opinion, is too much engine (both power and weight) for that frame.

Welcome anyways! Good luck with your plans!

Done several V8's - only one was a 350. As you'll notice, all below are V6's. Besides being a tight fit you will just start the string of breakage down the drive train as one weak link is fixed, another will pop up.

In my opinion (and based on experience) if you start down the V8 path you need to swap out the whole drive train with the exeption of the D18... Now some will say with a judicious use of the skinny pedal you will be fine, and they would be right, but if you used the skinny pedal judiciously, you wouldn't want a V8.

If I was to build my dream rig (and one day I will) it would be a FI V6, SM465, D18, Warn OD, D44's front and back (still narrow track), Holbrooks, Saginaw, and discs up front - all tucked in a flattie that looked stock from the outside. Just food for thought.
