Anyone did this yet... i know several guys have used other parts to get a 2.46:1 and the 3.15:1 has been talked about alot... right now this is pretty high on the "want to do list" when i get home in march. i know that it would be great to get an '80 scout D300 and go with 4:1 but i guess i will have to keep dreaming. i think with my 6.32:1 1st gear and 4:88RP, F/R Detroits... add those tcase gears and it would ROCK! :flag:

i am also going to eventually get the tera low kit. A main thing is trying to find the best price for it. i have seen it upwards of about $800 and heard of places selling it for about $550.

I'm keeping my eyes open for a D20 empty case to put the kit into.

You do realize that you don't have to use a dana 20 case specifically. A large hole dana 18 case is the same thing. The v6 models used a large hole case from the factory. That will help with the search.

When you want a TeraLow kit, Check with Don Peters here:
    http://www.dc4wd.com/
He had the best price when I was shopping.

Second best price on Tera Kits was from Bob Supplee...
both were WAY below the big catalog prices.

i had read about doing that before but if i am going to tear into it i am going to gear it as low as possible...

    97:1 with the D20 and 3.15's and if i had a D300 w/the 4:1's it would be 126:1 slower=faster heheheheheheR)

Kyle, I chose to not install a TL 3.15 kit in my D18.

With the T18 (6.32) I have now, and the 2.46 D18, plus 3.73s, I have about 59:1 crawl. Not very low by some standards... but I considered where I do most of my wheeling, and my gear selection. I seldom use the low/low combination... and when I do it's about exactly right... I don't have a need for lower gears. So I considered the cost vs. benefit for me... and chose to do a stock rebuild on the D18 instead of adding in the TL kit.
    That's what works for me.
    As always, YMMV... ;) :)

I have had one installed recently. I have not had a chance to wheel it since but the change is very noticable.

There is a substantial bit of grinding that has to be done on the case. It is not just a small bit and a dremal wont do the job well. The kit come with new seals and gaskets but it does not come with new bearings. So if you are are planning a rebuild at the same time you will need those.

    with 6.32 1st, 3.15 terra low and 4.56 gears I have a 91:1 crawl now.
so with 4.88 you would have a 97:1 low range.

I put one in my '75 CJ5. The critical item is your tranny output shaft - it MUST be 6-spline. That means it won't work with the T14 transmission, you gotta have either a T15 or T18. Yes, it's essentially a rebuild as all gears and seals are replaced.

Yup. Well worth it. Its like having one more gear below 1st. It took my anemic crawl ratio from 47-1 to 74-1. Way different on the trail. I did this right before rubicon in june and it was soooooo much nicer. It does make more noise at higher speeds, but you won't notice it crawling along on the trail. Unfortunately I've heard some negative comments about the longevity of these gears. I have only gone on two runs since installing them so I really can't comment as to how they are holding up yet. I do need to pull the pan and do a visual inspection just to make sure.

It is basicly a rebuild kit with gears. Although it does not come with bearings and the intermediate shaft they send you is basicly junk. I splurged and bought a novak kit with the intermediate shaft.

I had pics somewhere on here, but I seem to have lost that thread.

I got mine from DC4wd for a rediculous price qouted off of pirate4x4. I believe it was under $550.

Now I just need to regear the axles.:)
