Hello everyone. It has been awhile since I have posted on this site. I have been at college for the past 4 months, and had little time to post any messages. Just to reintroduce myself, my name is Blair and I am an 18 year old from MA. I have been working to rebuild my 79 CJ5 (360 with Ford T18 ) for the past year, and so far I have only had time to get it down to the frame. Here is my question regarding the replacement of my stock axles with Dana 44s:

While I have many custom ideas for this project, I would like to replace my current front and rear axels with Dana 44s from a 77 J10. I chose these axels because they are a total of approximately 10 inches wider which will increase stability and safety when cornering. Although I don't believe the rear axle replacement will be an issue, I am mainly concerned with the front axle. I am afraid I will run into problems because of the dramatic width increase, including: location of the pumpkin (possible interference with the leaf springs), angle of driveshaft, or issues I have yet to think of. I was curious if anyone can provide some insight or advice on this particular swap.

If you do a search for d44 swap or fullsize axle swap you'll find all the info you need.

you will have to outboard the front springs. Look for waggie axle swap. If you are going spring over, with the J10 axles you may have issues with the tie rod contacting the leaf springs. With the waggie you just miss it, but the extra width of the truck axles it will probably hit.
