I am putting the hubs back together and one seal is perfect but the other hub has a smaller diameter where the hub presses in. Do I have a wrong hub??

I don't think a picture will help as the differences are very small. My 69 CJ calls for an inner seal #8430S. One hub is right the other is not. The wrong one has a smaller diameter in the hub for the seal. A #42101S seal is almost right but still slightly loose. I suspect I have one early hub (wrong seal size) and one correct. I need to know if I am correct in this assumption??
And if so what year had the smaller seal??

Talked to Herm, he said it sunded like I have one later (69) hub and one early. I need to find a 69 or around then hub so they match.

Put in the correct seal and post a WTB ad for a early hub. That way you won't be out of a jeep 'til one shows up.

Thanks, that is what I'm doing. Actually the "bad" hub had a seal that was flopping around on the spindle. It wasn't even in the hub!! I'm sure I can get another hub as I would think they are not usually in much demand.

You might find a new hub at 4 Wheel Drive Hardware. I bought a pair of them for my "73 D30. I had one that had spun a bearing race.

The measurement on the inside ID where the seal goes. The one I need is 3 inches. The wrong one is an 1/8th smaller at 2 7/8ths.
I keep finding where a PO did mickey mouse stuff like this.
    I appreciate the effort.

Seems to me the bearings are the same but the race is different?? Perhaps PO changed the race but not the bearings?? The race on the inside of the small hub just drops out. I think it was patched together using who knows what parts.

Yes you are right. PO did something creative and I'm not sure what. I have a hub on its way and I'm just going to get all new bearings and races and seal for it to make sure all is right.
