In the process of dismantling a 225 on the engine stand, one motor mount bolt twisted its head off. Removed the MM, and about 1/2" of the bolt is still sticking out, so that's good at least. In the process of trying to get 'er out, I've had it soaking in B'laster PB, and heated it up w/ a propane torch (it's all I've got  ) and an ice cube. Even screwed a nut onto it in an attempt to actually tighten it to break the hold. No luck. Next came the channel-locks, and now the threads are toast.

So now what? Since there's still 1/2" sticking up, there's got to be another method rather than drilling. I'm wondering if I should just leave it there...sorta like a dowel/locating pin for the next MM. The other bolt'd keep it snug, and the busted bolt would keep it from shifting up & down.

    Thoughts?

Got JBWELD? put the nut on and see if JB weld will hold enough to get it out?

Take it to someone who does if you don't have a welding set up. Since it has a part of the bolt sticking up most of the battle is won.

It crossed my mind before I ruined the threads. :( If I'm goona use JB weld, I'd smear a hunk of it on the end of the bolt after installing the new MM and then never worry about it again. :)

It prolly would be easier to have welding come here, but then I don't have a 220 outlet (or whatever). Block's not going anywhere...it's got crank & stuff installed (no hoist either, just a big come-along).

If you will have the block machined, leave it to the shop. They'll make quick work of it.

Also, if the stud sticks out, the Craftsman bolt-out works well.

Thanks for the input guys.

Tonight I chased the threads back to good, and heated it up a few times & touched it w/ an ice cube. Cleaned it up and got the JB weld out. Put some on the threads, then screwed in a nut. Placed a big glob on the nut & in the center. I'll wait a day or so before wrenching counter-clockwise on the nut. Cross your fingaas!
