I was reading the post about a wiring diagram for a 74, so I figured Id ask you guys where is the best place to buy a wiring HARNESS for my 75 CJ-5. I've got horrendous problems with mine and I dont even want to bother wiring in my winch, my air horn, power inverter, or anything else before I get it straight. I figure the best way to do that is to replace everything with a harness with good instructions.

They (EZ Wiring) have an Ebay store. I bought a 21 circuit mini fuse harness for $115 plus shipping. I could have went with the 12 circuit model, but since it was only $10 more I figured I could use the extra circuits for things like off road lights, CB radio, winch, etc..... Do a serch for EZ wiring on ebay, and keep an eye on prices. The same 21 circuit mini fuse harness was selling between $115 - $150 depending on the listing.

Here is a writup on an EZ wiring install:

You could also go with a painless wiring harness ( www.painlesswiring.com ) , I've heard a lot of good things about them but thier basic harnesses start arround $400

IMO I think it is always wiser to go through the harness and "rebuild it". You can get wire in bulk for short change through a company called Wytek or Wy something. They have a website, and stock any color combo you need along with connectors etc. I do not know how close to the original harness in terms of colors, connectors, etc the new ones are. If the color schemes are different the FSM wiring diagram is useless and makes troubleshooting later more difficult. My opinion.

Thanks for the help, guys! I had never heard of them before. I'll read over everything and check them out.

MA, you've got a good point, and I really appreciate your input, but I've never once used a wiring diagram (Dad is spinning in his grave as I type this, he was an electronics engineer), so it wouldn't make much of a difference in the future.

You wont need a wiring diagram to determine what each colored wire does. ALl of the mentioned aftermarket harnesses are labeled every couple of inches as to where they go.

I found an eBay store called EZ2Wire, not the same as EZ wiring, but I purchased a Kwik Wire harness fromt hem. I picked that one because it is a heavier gauge wire, the connections are all soldered, and I liked the fuse box. Since this guy is intended for mud instead of rock crawling (or restoration), I don't think the extra cost will hurt in the long run. I just hope it is as simple to connect as the claims go :)

Mongo, let me know how the install goes. I've been considering the same thing for my '81 but I am also a little sceptical of the claims they make about how "EZ" it is.

FWIW, I bought a harness from Walck's. I think it's more of a "correct" restoration kit, with old-style cloth covered wires and what I'm assuming are factory color codes and slash marks, but the instructions leave a lot to be desired and I found a couple of errors, even though it's not installed yet. Pretty nice quality, and has all the connectors already on it, but I don't know how it'll fit and it certainly isn't labeled every 5" with where the wires go. I made up my own labels for each wire end.
