Ok..new top is great but as with all Jeeps new problems...Windshield had to be shimed..this broke the seal between whindshield and the body. Now area under windshield LEAKS...new rubber seal on the way.

I had the same problem. I had to shim mine and it leaks pretty bad. I REALLY need to get a new seal!

New WS seal will significantly improve the top fit.

Yep, same here. But the problem isn't the seal though, it's the shims throwing off the angle of the mating surfaces. It'd be the same if there were a shim somewhere on the block when you bolt down the head....the gasket won't seal, and ordering a new gasket/seal won't solve the prob. :(

I was thinking maybe my seal was worn out (it looks worn out) and with a new one I wouldn't need a shim. At least I hope thats the case!

To be truthfully honest I think alot of the sealing problems are caused from the age of the bodies and the sway back nature that seems to be inherent in the jeep after so many years of use, rust and neglect and then we are told by the top manufacture to come up with this measurement from the windshield to the tub when installing the top that is difficult since everything is bowed and warped now.

Oh it (gasket) made a huge difference in mine also Sparky, but alot of guys seem to struggle with this issue and the sway back may be part of the problem also.

Even with a new gasket, I had to shim my w/s to get the top to fit. I cut the ends off of 2 rubber bungee cords and layed them under the w/s. Worked perfectly.

I didn't have any problems w/ my new top. Course it was a Tiger Top.
I had already replaced the seal so everything lined up w/ no problem.

I installed a new cowl seal, new top, new windshield and gasket, and a fiberglass tub back in '95/96.
It leaked pretty bad before the new stuff.
After the new stuff, it leaked slightly less. I still get a wet right foot when driving in the rain

IIRC even new soft-top Jeeps leaked at the windshield seal. Soft top sealing was imperfect at best; wind would blow rain in through the door seals, etc. My hard top sealed somewhat better.
