No wonder it took 2.5 years..

    Set down last night and made a list of everything I have done for to the CJ. Mainly so I would know what I would need to buy if I broke something. Here is the list.

    Current 1972 CJ-5 Configuration:
    Origional rebuild completed in Fall 2004.

    Front Axle:
    '83 Dana 30 wide track
    '72 knuckles with warn permium hub conversion
    drum brakes
    Yukon 4340 Inners and 1541 Outers
    297x u-joints
    Lock-Rite
    All new bearings and seals at time of rebuild

    Rear Axle:
    '72 Dana 44 Narrow track
    Stock 44 shafts
    Full Carrier Detroit
    2.5" Performance Wheel and Tire Spacers to bring it out to Wide track Width
    All new bearings and seals at time of rebuild
    2.5" wide spring hangers with pinion rotated up to compensate for drive shaft angle.

    Tires:
    35x12.5R15 Good Year Wrangler MTRs w/matching spare.

    Springs:
    Rubicon Express heavy Duty 2.5" Wide 4.5" Lift for CJ. Front and Rear
    Converted from 1.75" stock springs

    Driveshafts:
    Custom made Heavy Duty front and rear

    Engine:
    '83 258 that was rebuilt when it was installed in the Jeep.
    Megasquirt based GM TBI Fuel Injection
    DUI HEI ignition system

    Transmission:
    '78 T-18A (6:32 1st gear) from J-series Truck
    Short Shaft conversion
    rebuilt when installed in Jeep
    Hydraulic clutch conversion

    Transfer
    Case:
    '72 Dana 20
    Tera-Low gears (3.15 to 1) installed 1K miles after Jeep rebuild.
    Twin Stick conversion including removal of detent pills.

    Wiring:
    Stock wiring removed and custom rewired during Jeep Rebuild.

    Fuel System:
    RCI 15 Gallon Fuel cell mounted in bed.
    Holley TBI in-line fuel pump.
    Pre and Post pump FI filters
    Fuel Return Line
    Fuel tank vent and Evap canister for emmissions.
    Holley dual pickup installed in Fuel Cell

    Dash:
    Designed and built a custom panel using Autometer guages, speedo and tach.
    all guages use electronic sendors including speedo.
    Wiring is integrated into the custom wiring harness.

    Cage/Tire
    Carrier:
    Smitty Built weld in cage
    custom tire carrier integrated into the cage

    Seats:
    Racing style seats with 4 point harness. Seats are mounted to the cage and the seat belt
    anchors are attached to the cage as well.

    Body:
    fenders trimmed on all 4 corners to clear 35" tires.

    This Jeep is registered and street legal.

    sounds like a nice ride. did you have to change drive shaft lengths with the t18? i have a 75 with t14 and want to swap in an 18 but dont want to get to involved till spring thanks

    Yup, the rear will be shorter by about 2 inches and the front will be longer by about the same amount.

    That list sounds so familiar. Mine is like that. If anything breaks you can't just run to a parts store and say 72 cj5. Sometimes it's hard to remember off the top of your head what a certain part came off of.

    Great buildup site hudsonhawk!

    I really enjoyed all the detailed pics and the time spent with wiring the guages and the rest of the Jeep. Also, very impressed with the custom swing out tire carrier.

    Im looking to install a wiring harness i just purchased and hopefully ill have a full soft top soon (starting to rain a lot in Santa Cruz, California). Do you have any suggestions or tips regarding the harness and what i should do next.

    Do it one wire at a time. Make sure you leave enough slack so that the engine can rock back and forth on its mounts. Its not hard really just time consuming.
