Well low and behold I found an original rearview mirror in the junkyard. Mirror, set of dashlights, 4 knobs, and the lower bellhousuing dust cover for $20! Good day. Question: the mirror mounts to the w/s frame. My frame has 2 sets of holes drilled near the center of the top of the frame. One set is offset to the right and the other is offset to the left. When the mirror was mounted to the frame originally was it offset to one side or do I have to drill a set of holes in the center? Thanks

On my original 72 frame the mirror was centered on the frame but the aftermarket frame I replaced it with had the two sets of holes like you describe. I just mounted it closer to the drivers side.

I am going to mount it in the middle where it originally was. I wonder what those 2 sets of holes are for??? I thought the visors maybe, but there are no holes on the sides.

Here's what I have in my '73. Not sure where it came from - was there when I bought it in '83. Sure would like to find a mirror for it - something that would screw into that rotate-able bolt sticking out of it.

Hunky-D that is the base of the mirror too bad the mirror is missing though. It can be a hard part to find. Is that base in the center of the windshield? Is that footman loop centered?

It is pretty much centered. The loop is off center. I bought one of those aftermarket mirrors sold for early cj-5s and it had a plastic housing. The cold we get here in Nome Alaska warped it (shrunk the plastic) enough to break the mirror. I need something better.

That exact same thing happened when I bought that same mirror. It is really cheap and one morning the glass was cracked right down the center. It gets cold enough in central MA.
