Hey guys. I had my trans and xcase rebuilt and my current dilema is if I should have my engine rebuilt while I have everything out. The motor ran strong before the trans took a dump but at this point should I go all the way or just install the trans and case and enjoy it? It would be nice to have the engine match with 0 miles but is it really nescessary?

Maybe I'm just too anal.

    Thanks for any input...

If engine is fine (no noises, good oil pressure, no smoke etc.) I'd paint it and enjoy it. If it has a oil leak or 2 I would replace the gaskets and run it.

i agree, clean it off and give it a shot of paint and run it. If you redo the motor you will end up with a good motor, but you will also have the jeep down for that much more time.

Depends.... How patient are you, how are your funds, and how important is the Jeep as far as trasportation.... And how bad do you want to drive it... For me, if the motor seemed fine, I'd run it..

I would do a compression test or leak down test to see where your engine really stands. If all specs are correct and there are no oil leaks then I would do as others have said, paint it and drive it.

If ya got the money, go for it get it all done at one time, then you don't have too worry about it. But then there's the axles and what condition is the body.............

nothing worse that throwing a bunch of good engine parts into the local land fill for the sake of a premature overhaul...:v6:

I'd agree with most of the above - leave well enough alone! Since it's out, I'd change the timing chain if you have not.

Adding to what Tim said, throw in a Melling High Volume oil pump.

If you do a search you'll turn up all the part numbers you need for the Edelbrock double roller timing chain, Melling oil pump (at Autozone cheap), and the gaskets with a neoprene front main (at Autozone cheap).

Well worth the small amount of effort IMO.

Run it till it drops...then spend the bucks. You never know...it may run another 10 to 15 years. Mine leaks some oil, I need to replace the pan & valve cover gaskets as well as the rear main seal...but, I didnt buy it for people to oogle at all the pretty paint, I bought it to "HAVE FUN"!!!

I'm going against the grain a tad here.
Reseal it while you have it out. New gaskets and freeze plugs will pay off long term.
Timing chain & oil pump are easy enough to replace while its out also.
