I was sitting here staring at the Renegade II pic on my desktop when it occured to me.

The windshield frames on all three are "Intermediate" windshield frames w/ the tall glass. So that makes them available on Early 5s from the factory and not just intermediates.

Just found it interesting. That's all.

:? What glass didn't match? '71s were always considered to be an "early" AFIAK, at least around here.

I mentioned in a post about a year ago that the 70/71 models had the taller glass, they have bottom mounted wipers which automatically means they were taller, I've always known this.:D What you really mean is that the intermediates have the later, early 5 windshield frame.;)

Bottom mount wipers != taller glass.

    '68 - '69, '70(?) still has the short glass.

What I mean is that no one has pointed it out since we did the Windshield Frame information page that calls them "Intermediate" frames.

Or were the bottom mount, short WS wipers a '68/part of '69 thing and in '69 the frames got the curved glass. Eugene has the large glass, bottom mount WS frame...

What glass didn't match? '71s were always considered to be an "early" AFIAK, at least around here.

The glass that came in my 71, and i have no reason to believe the frame wasn't original (all six layers of paint matched all the way to primer), did not fit the earlier top mounted wiper frame i bought. looking at the pic from the day i picked it up, it's most definately an "intermediate" frame, the glass goes all the way to the top and follows the slight curve of the frame. but i believe everyone's already covered what i just said since i posted the first time.

seems like ya hit a nerve though...

That is from a '68. I have two the same way (one is the one pictured). My '70 (October '69 build) has the tall glass. Both are pictured in the tech article.

early '68 and down had the top mount wipers and the short, flat top glass.

late '68/early '69 had the bottom mount wipers with the short, flat top glass.

late '69-'75 had the bottom mount wipers with the tall, curved glass.

'76 and on we all know is a completely different frame.

thats always been my understanding at least.
