I'm getting conflicting info on what type of Trans and transfer case I have in my 76 CJ-5,,, just fyi I have an AMC 360 and a ford 9" rear end. The numbers on the transmission are C-CU-OU and the numbers 2603347,,, The transfer case has a metal tag with the numbers 300596-113 and 5354565. Does anyone know for sure what I have here... Help... The transfer case is fine but I need to rebuild the tranny due to it popping out of 2nd and grinding going into third,,, it's a 3 speed manual trans.. Thanks in advance for any help..

The Dana 300 never came with a 3-speed in a Jeep. The original transmission would have been a Tremac T-150 and the transfer case a Dana 20. The easiest way to ID a D300 v. a D20 is by the aluminum rear output housing of the D300, v. cast iron in the D20. Both have a cast iron case.

The 5354565 is a Jeep P/N and someone here should be able to look it up for you.

Per Novak: "Typical casting numbers found on the T150 are 2603xxx on the top and each side." Sounds like a positive ID to me.

Dang you guys are quick.. Yes I was told when I bought the jeep that it had a dana 300 which I researched and found out that it can't be hooked to a 3 speed tranny,,, I think your correct about the T-150 and the dana 20 I just need to research to find out for sure before I tear this tranny apart.. Thanks again..

Probably the casting number for the case. The tag number is more specific.

If the case and the rear output housing are cast iron, and the rear output is centered, I don't know of anything it could be except a Dana 20. There weren't that many different transfer cases used in Jeeps prior to around 1980.
