Any idea if it's the same as a 225/231?

I see the timing mark is on the other side, how does that work?

I have an, uh, issue with my 225 timing cover. Had a bolt for the water pump broken off in it when I removed it. Figured I'd just extract it. Riiiggghhhhtttt. The extractor got off center and ate up the aluminum of course.

Everything but the timing marks seem to look the same at first glance.

    Sparky ,
m38willys has a complete 198 motor He has offered me parts from it. I dont need a timing cover give him a try. By thye way the timing gears are the same for the 198 and 225. Hope this helps.

I've got a 198 timing cover at my disposal, other side of the drive from the 225 that needs it. ;)

I know the gears are the same. I think it's the same excepting the timing marks. Just wanted to know for sure before I went to alot of effort.

i hate those water pump bolts. they just snap off no problem.

had to get 3 of 'em out of my "new" engine before install.
replaced with stainless so hopefully no problem next time...

i have a timing cover sitting in the garage but i don't know if it's any better then the one you have. i would try sealing it up good without the bolt and see if it leaks before taking the cover off. i know my last engine was missing at least one bolt w/ no leaks.

if you want mine it's yours for shipping.

it's pretty ugly, but i think there's some paint under there
i am pretty sure there is at least one broken bolt, but maybe there is enough sticking out to get at it. i will check for you if you want.

Worth a shot to check, if it's any better I'll take it.

I don't think it was leaking before and I know I didn't snap the bolt off, I commented to MOP when I pulled that one out that it was broken.

I'm just picky, I know I could prolly get away with having this one broken, just bugs me.

Yup, those w/p bolts are prone to breaking, due to corrosion.....
I had two break off on mine when I did the first water pump and timing chain.. Luckily, I was able to drill and extract them... When you put it back together, put some RTV on the threads.....I've put two water pumps on mine since then, and have had no problems... FWIW

Heh, I think I'll take my chances with mine. I might try to see if I can get the rest of the bolt out and see what I can do from there. I can prolly salvage it. But if there's an easier way out I'll take it. ;)

 Why did I get Linus again?

Guess I do have a new timing chain set that'll fit the 198...

Sparky, I can get the broken bolt out and probably fix the hole in your old cover, send it and consider it a present.

I have a a 198 cover and no they won't fit the 225, the cover is missing the outer 2 ears and bolts on the block water passages.
