I'm in the midst of upgrading from 9" to 11" drums. Anyone know where I can get a drum puller to remove the rear drums?

I'm 999% positive I had my rear 9" drums off for a quick looky (I know I had the fronts off), and they came right off. I had to remove some flathead screws first, but the drums slid right off. I can remember I was surprised, because I thought I'd read something about needing a puller to get them off, but figured it must have been something else I'd read about.

i needed a BIG puller to get mine off. look for one that bolts to the hub and use a BFH to pound the crank. watch out cause the hub can pop out violently... just be out of the way!

iirc this is one item that jcwhitney has that few others do. might check ebay also.

OK, please pardon my ignorance, but what are you doing in that photo and why? Are you pulling the hub off the end of the axle or what? I've never worked on axles/rearends/differentials before, but I'm gonna have to soon.

Pulling the hub off is what he's showing. If it comes off without a puller it's too loose.

OK, the thread was about pulling the drums off, not the hubs. Is a puller needed for that? Mine came right off.

some drums can be swaged to the hub
you have to pull both as an assembly
    some drums held with screws
once the screws removed, the drum will pop off; to remove the hub, a hub puller is still needed.

the pic is to show the puller only... it is from the tech section for the full floater install. (happens to be the puller i borrowed from jon to do mine also) :p

regardless, you need to pull the hub to get the backing plate off correct? my drums were pressed to the hub so it was all one unit. some of the older 9" drums do have a screw so make sure it is out before pulling.

I'll rephrase my question, I need to pull the hub and drums off to replace the backing plates so I can install backing plates for 11" brakes. I guess I need a hub puller, any ideas on where to get one?

    JC Whitney.

Visit the full floater upgrade in the tech section for a PN.

Same one I have. Works wonders and it's sheep for what you get done with it.

Thanks Sparky. I'll get this done some day, it just has to be sooner than later.

Ah, I understand now. I haven't done the 9"/11" conversion yet, so I didn't realize the hub had to come off. Thanks for edjikatin' me, guys!

I couldn't find one from Harbor Freight so I ordered one from JC Whitney.
The wife will be upset with all the money I've been spending lately on the Jeep but oh well. I don't spend money on beer or strip joints so she'll have to deal with it.
