I picked up a 67 jeep for the winch and other misc. parts. The winch is a Koenig model 5184. It appears to be mounted incorrectly, lots of torched steel and welding. Looks like it is supposed to be mounted inbetween the frame rails, with the roller fairlead on top of the bumper.
The other koenig winchs I have seen on the net are mounted on the bottom of the winch, mine is mounted in the middle, like a ramsey. I have seen my winch mounted on land rovers.
Is this a correct winch for a jeep? Anyone have pics of this style winch mounted in a jeep? I will be putting in in my CJ2A.
I also need a handle, may end up making one.

First thing I wonder about will be the drive shaft. The setup you have looks narrow, which would offset the mounting to the driver's side. That isn't a big deal, I don't think. Mine is 25 3/4 inches wide, just snug between the rails. But, I have 6 1/2 inches betweeen the drum and the gearbox, where yours looks like it's butted right up to it. Mine wasn't the "right" one for a CJ either; it came out of an FC, IIRC. No doubt you can make it work; I think it is worth the effort. BTW, before you install it, free up the dog clutch while it is out. It's easier, I'm sure. One more ?: PTO gonna hook up to your trans? We had a snag with that, too.

This came off a CJ5, frame width of 25 3/4, going on my 2A, width is also 25 3/4. Winch was centered between the rails. The driveshaft went inbetween the drop link for the steering, and crossmember. Winch is 18 1/2 in long.
The dog clutch is free, just need a handle. I will tear down and put new seals in before the install.

Looks wrong how the winch was mounted in the CJ5, fairlead was welded into the bumper, and winch was on top of the framerails. Roller fairlead should be on top, and winch between the rails.
I have a Koenig model 50 twin stick pto, spicer rear pto box, and all the driveshafts. Should be fairly easy to install these.

The winch is mounted correctly but the fairlead is not. The winch cable should be coming out from the top and the fairlead should be mounted up top as well. If you look at my avatar you can see kind of how it should be. The job on my Jeep is a hack job that is getting fixed when I re-do the '5, but it gives you an idea of kinda how it should look. You'll also notice that the winch and fairlead are off set to the passenger side. This is because of the Saginaw Power steering conversion. It's tight, but they will both fit between the frame rails on an early CJ or FlatFender. I have the same winch you have. Actually, I have two more in the garage rebuilt that also need handles. Contact Hermtheoverdriveguy (Herm Tilford) as he has some parts for these Koenigs. They are a great winch and could be ordered from the factory and I believe were also dealer installed, but someone will correct me if I'm wrong. If you need I can probably snap some top view pics of my mounting which is almost hack and will get fixed. I also have the stock mounts that will get used on one of my projects as well.
One last thing. Welcome from Portland, OR!
    Nickmil.

Pics of your setup and the stock mounts would be great, Dviers@neo.rr.com. So the correct mount is on top of the frame rails? I understand the fairlead, I thought it was flipped.

I don't have any plans for power steering. Jeep steers really easy. Brake upgrade is needed, 9 in brakes are just dangerous.

I have the contact info for Herm, will have to give him a call.
    Thanks
    Dennis

I've got some pics of the stock mount. Gotta take more of the way mine is on the Jeep. Should have them for you tomorrow. Nickmil.
