Clutch problems

Looking for some advice here. Have a friends 72 cj5 in my shop with clutch problems. The linkage is not 72, but appears to be similar to a 73 with the solid rod, instead of the cable.

I have at least 2" of travel on the clutch fork when the clutch is depressed, but I cant shift the jeep. I started it in gear, and drove it down the street thinking the clutch was stuck to the flywheel, but it still doesnt engage. The clutch worked about a month ago when he drove in the shop, so it hasnt been sitting that long to stick. any ideas ?
