We'll the clutch pedal is to the floor and the Jeep is stranded. Does someone have the size of the connecting rod because for a quick fix to get it home I am going to rig up a chain, turnbuckle, and two quick links. I need to know the size so I wont get a quick link too big and not be able to fit is through the hole where the rod connects. Last night I had ran to the hardware store and ran the same setup and not knowing the exact size of the rod bought quick links and a turnbuckle small to be on the safe side and they pulled apart. There is a pretty good load on that rod that I didnt quite realize.

x's 2. Been there, done that.

It wasn't very far back home (3 or 4 miles). Just start it in 1st gear, keep the rpm's low and you can get it into second (for me, there was a bit of grinding, but I think some people can do it without a problem). When you come to a stop, just knock it out of gear, stop, put it back in first, and start it up when you're ready to take off.

As for your original question - I don't know the exact size of the connecting rod, but I would guess it at 7/16 corse thread.

Well I went out to it on my lunch break today and threw on a bigger turnbuckle and bigger quicklinks and its working now. I thought about doing that but a mix of freeway and city driving for about 20 miles was gonna suck.

Tyler, IIRC, the holes for the "pin" are 5/16". But I have a '57, YMMV.

    Hope this helps some....

Thanks. I may just keep the turnbuckle deal on there its strong enough and will even allow for adjustment. Hows the desert out in AZ for wheelin (dumb question)? Me and the lady are planning on making a move out to Tucson sometime in the next year or so.

    Tyler,
My opinion is that the best part of Tuscon is its proximity to Mexico. I spend lots of time in Baja, (we just got 2nd place in the 1000) so I'm very famiiar with Baja from the Border to La Paz.
From Tuscon the roads south to Hermosillo gives you many areas of exploration and very good roads.

Yeah my girlfriend is from Tucson so we've been out to visit a couple times a year and go south to Puerto Penasco when we go out and I've always thought the terrain and proximity to the ocean would be a blast in the Jeep.
