Have to get a few more body monuts installed on the jeep. Mainly on the brace that holds the cowl up. the angled pieces that are runnig with the frame, i didnt have any monuts there, and there are no provisions for monuts there, yet there should be monuts there. I previously ziptied some montus there but Tellico busted them off. Now i was thinking bout welding a piece of steel rod on the frame right next to the mount, then use a rubber hose clamp and go around the mount adn aroudn the rod so it has a solid mounting point and tighten it down so it will not bounce out.

My questions is, has anyone else done a mount for this spot, and what did you do or use to hold the monuts in place since there is no bolt holding the mount to the body.

How about fabbing up a triangular mount outta angle or something, spot weld it to the body and bolt it to the frame. Sorta like the factory set up only stronger. Mebbee someone has some of the factory pieces laying around from an old tub.

If you're talking about the triangular support ( like in the pic below) I think I know what you're asking, so here goes. IIRC, I was told that the original factory deal was a piece of belt rubber was stapled in that spot. Obviously, that won't work with the neoprene donuts used today. There was already a hole in the tub support there, so I took one of the donuts, and "countersunk" it a little bit. This allowed me to tighten a nut and bolt on the donut itself, and place the loose end of the bolt up through the hole in the tub. The head of the bolt, being recessed into the donut, won't interfere with the donut being compressed. You'll have to lift the tub up off the frame a little bit to get it in there, but once in place, you won't have to worry about losing it.

    Hope this helps.

Hey Thad, yup those are the monuts i am talking about. unfortunately i modified the area there so that hole is not available. Nice picture of the underside of the jeep, really clean looking. :) Good job restoring it.

soo are you missing the trianle peices going to the floorboard?? I might have some laying around here, it all depends on whether or not the "trash" has been taken out yet.

I do have those pieces, i added metal to them so they are not original. i just need to put monuts under them. And taking the tub off is not an option now ;) So i am going to go ahead and weld on a piece of metal round stock and hose clamp the mount to the rod, this way it shouldstay, since the body and frame jsut flexed enoguh for the old pucks to slip out, this should hold them.

    Hey Dan -

Please...post a pic of what you end up doing. I never did do any mounts in this spot.
