Yup, I called Austin Jeeps yesterday just for curiousity's sake and he has complete Whitco CJ-5 tops for $1500. Wish some one would make a production run of those at a more reasonable price. I would be willing to pay perhaps $750.

I spoke to that guy on the phone earlier in the week. He sounds like a nice enough guy, however he is not letting them go cheap. I would pay $750 for one. I think I am leaning towards STC top because I like the look of them. I have definitely axed the TT and the ST while still a very viable option is a little pricey. I can get an STC from Herm for around $500.

No kidding?! Herm has them listed for $505. I stopped in at STC here in Denver the other day, and they wanted $555 for one, and that's right at the factory where they make 'em. Reckon I'll be callin' Herm when I'm ready for one.

I think I am going to go for the STC top. I think they look more vintage, I've had one before and it worked well, and finally they are cheaper.

Not surprising. Retailers can choose their markup. Manufacturers don't want to undercut the list price, so they always sell at full retail (typically 40% markup).

Wellll, can't be paying full retail if'n I can get it cheaper! I doubt shipping will eat up all of the $50 difference. Should have enough left for a 6-pack.

Plus you'll be supporting one of our favorite retailers - may as well let Herm take his cut rather than paying a 40% premium to the factory.

Only $85 more than the STC. The thing I liked best about the STC was the paddle door handles. Other than that I prefer the zip out windows and 2 piece doors of the ST. The TT I had before did not fit that well. I had the same problems others on here described. On my passenger side the velcro would also keep coming undone on the upper horizontal bar that ran to the windshield.  Kept flapping in the wind. Guess I should keep my speed below 80 :D

just ordered my supertop from quadratec and got it for $660.00 shipped with a $50 mail in rebate... dont know how great the deal was but 4wheel parts was way more and so was 4 wheelers supply. the best they could do was $660.00 plus shipping. and 4wp was 703.00 plus shipping.

Sounds like about $10 better than I did. Mine will be about 620 shipped, but won't have to deal with mail in rebate (6-8 weeks)

I ordered my STC from Herm last Monday. He told me it would be about 7-10 days due to the factory being busy this time of year. Spoke to Herm for about 30 minutes, what a nice guy. Great recommendation from this site.

I know this topic is a little old but i still got questions. From what I understand the 73 cj5 doesnt come with factory door hinges or at least mine didnt and the windshield is not as angled as the 76 and up. So how can you get a bestop ST to fit correctly because the only ones that iv came across were for 76 up. I have a bestop on it now but not sure what kind. I think its a tiger top, not sure though.

Not trying to be rude but it is this simple. You buy a Bestop Supertop for a 55-75 CJ-5 to make it fit correctly.

They're readily available from several sources. They come with the hinges you need to make the doors work and the railing system, etc.

Thanks for the input. The top and doors that i have now dont seal worth a flip. Which do you think would be better for the job the ST or STC.

Depends on your preferences as outlined above. Both work fine. Just how much $$ are you willing to spend and which one has features and looks that you prefer?
