For some reason I can't shift my Atlas II into to Front Wheel Drive.

There's two sticks. The left operates the rear output and the right operates the front output. The shift pattern look like this

    L L
    N N
    H H

I'm supposed to be able to shift the rear (left) into neutral and then shift the front (right) into either high or low range. I can't get it out of neutral if the rear is also in neutral.

Now if I shift the rear into high or low I can shift the front in the same gear but I can't run Front wheel drive.

Any one care to guess what would prevent this?

For what it's worth, it use to work fine but quit for some reason.

Also...I discovered this problem because I had found another problem. One of the threaded rods that connect the shifter to the t-case (rear output) unthreaded itself and dropped loose. I climbed under it and threaded it back into place. After that I was prompted to shift through a few gears just to check it. That's when I realized that I no longer had Front wheel drive.

Not being completely familiar with your problem, three comments come to mind. First, did you ever have front wheel drive? how long has this linkage been disconnected? Did you recently aquire this Jeep/transfer case? Second, when you reconnected the linkage are you sure you connected/adjusted it such that it truly puts tcase in neutral? Maybe its already in a gear? Third, have you reviewed the manual? According to the manual you cant get front 2wd drive high. Here is a link to the manual:

You're dead on Karl. I just got off the phone with Jim @ Advance Adapters. He told me the same thing...can't get Front Wheel Drive High Range. I remembered when he said that that I could get Front Wheel Drive Low Range. I was only wanting high rangh (at the time) because I had that vibration and I thought if I shifted into FWD High that I could possibly check the front shaft alone for the vibration. When I couldn't, I thought it was broken. Oh well...I know now.

Also...Jim said he could tell me exactly what the gear ratio was if I could get him the numbers off the side of the case. I've been wondering that as well. I should have called him much sooner...very very friendly guy and informative as well.

And...he's sending me a manual on it.
