    I would like some help decoding a vehicle identification plate from a 79 cj5. Only need help where the question marks are please. Thanks in advance for your help.

    J396020 5-31a 8c 1c5 cc j9f83ec845187 8300.

    J396020 – Sales order number
    5-31 – SSR & O#
    a - ?
    8c – paint code? Doesn’t seem right should be 9c Russet Metallic?
    1c5 – is this the trim code? What trim package?
    cc - ?
    J9F83EC845187 – VIN
    8300 – Jeep model number

    I don’t have the plate to look at the numbers were giving to me over the net.

    8C = Quick Silver Metallic

    CC= Black Bucket seats, perforated vinyl

    most of it decodes as a Silver Anniversary CJ5, Toledo, 258, possibly built in Canada with VIN starting with 8000001 (Brampton)

    Hmmm, interesting to bad the owner swapped out the engine, tranny, t-case and color. I’m sure it doesn’t have the Silver Anniversary medallion on the dash.

    Thanks for the info Jim, very helpful

    Where can one find this plate with the information on.........I checked under the steering column on the firewall and didn't see it. I'm trying to verify if mine's a SA or not?

    I only have my VIN: J9F83AH832069
