I traded some help to a buddy on his 65 for his original 225. I have the 134 with T98 in my 63', can I bolt and go or should I grab his T90 while his back is turned?

Use the T-98. That low gear will probably be the best thing you can do to your jeep if you ever go off road. I did what your talking about and while it wasn't a bolt in, it wasn't too hard. I am a cheap jeeper too so I didn't buy an adapter. If you have the cash you can get a bellhousing to make it easier. I can provide details if you need them, but I'm sure I have done that here before and I don't want to bore everyone again.

Me? I cut about 1/2 an inch off the input shaft and left the bearing retainer as is. Works great. Been in there since June of '01. I used a Buick bellhousing, and left the adapter in place that was sandwiched in between the 134 bell and the T-98. Looking back, I dont think I really needed to cut the input shaft down. The recess behind the pilot bushing was deep enough. Oh yeah, I also used a standard chevrolet pilot bushing and opened up the inside to .631 IIRC. I got that spec from Novak.

Oh jeez. Sell the F134-T98 combo to someone who can use it and buy a T-18 from a J-truck. You can change to the short Ford input shaft and redrill the bellhousing to make the T-18 fit. I'm sure someone here has done this and can tell you the details. With some careful shopping you will come out ahead.

I would have thought that the shaft was too small both in length and in diameter for the v-6 application..

I've got a t-98 f-134 input shaft in the shop and I'll compare it to a t-86 input shaft tomorrow, but I'd swear it was smaller......

Length is relative to bellhousing depth. What difference does it make if the shaft is different in diameter. If the pilot bushing is the right size for both the shaft and the crank, the engine won't care. Like I said I'm cheap. It sounds like a lot, but it wasn't a big deal.
If you want to buy another tranny, hoping its in good shape internally, buy another input shaft and then replace the old one with it, or pay someone to, then by all means go ahead. I just know what worked for me. I have my eye on another T-98 here in NC, and if I can get it, I'll put it in my Jeep truck. I'm sure there will be some small hurdles to get over, but it won't be that big of a deal.

Don't know. I thought all the Jeep T-18s were the 4:1 first gear. I know that is correct for the CJs. Dont know about trucks.

There's always someone on this board looking for the F134-T98 combo. Seems a shame to chop the mainshaft when you can sell the T98 at a profit and go with a cheaper transmission.

The Jeep T-18s from J-trucks and Wagons all were 6.32:1 1st, except for maybe some 71-72 Wagoneers.

This is what I would do. The last one of those I saw on eBay went for over $900. You could get two Jtruck T-18s for that.

I dont plan on chopping anyhting, at this point. I have a lead on a 225/T98 factory combo that im going to borrow and pull apart and compare the difference in the 2. If theres such a slight difference im not going to even think twice about doing it. The 134 will still be used in my 65 that has the same 98/18 minus the engine.

I didn't think they made one of those from the factory. I'm sure someone else can chime in with accurate data, but I thought the four speed behind the 225 was a T-19. If its a T-98, that would be the easiest thing to do.

Well and all this may be true, I was under the intitial impression when I got my 63' that it had the t90 in it until all the greese and grime was removed the driver side markings read T98. If what he has is a true 225/98 Ill be sure to post pics for everyone. :D
