I had a TeraLow 20 kit installed in my model 20 transfer case. The kit requires a 6-spline output shaft on the transmission. Unfortunately I found out too late that my tranny has a 10-spline output, so the new gear that came with the TeraLow kit won't fit.

In searching the web, I've found several claims that there were two versions of T14 outputs used - a 6-spline and a 10-spline. I have a 1975 CJ5 with the I6 engine. The info at http://www.tellico4x4.com/catalog/moreinfo/t14t15.htm
states that the I6 T14 has a 6-spline shaft - but mine does not! The guys at a local transmission shop insist that the 10-spline was all that was ever used. So, is the info on the web wrong, or does my Jeep actually have the V6 tranny, or ??? Help please!

the local's are full of it.

there were two versions. one had six splines, one had ten splines.

the six was more common. i ran into the same issue when i put in my np435 - the output shaft i was sent was a six spline, rather than the ten spine i needed. unfortunately, the fine print in the specs shows that for at least '75's, they used the ten spine. you can get the correct slider from a t-150. it will work.

Looking at Novak's chart, it seems that all the T-14s had 10 splines. I'd be more inclined to believe my eyes than the chart.

To have 6 or 10 splines, the T-14 would have to have to come with two different mainshafts... not likely IMO. I think the only difference in the V6 and I6 T-14 is the input shaft, and maybe the bearing retainer. There was also a T-86 supplied with the V6, which has 6 splines and may be the source of confusion.

it did come with two different mainshafts.

the six spline was more common.

'75's had a ten spline shaft.

    Thanks for the input, guys.

Right - the T-14 would have to come with two different mainshafts in order to have 6 or 10 splines. But I can only find one listed in all the replacement parts lists I've seen. And right again, the input shafts and front bearing is different.

Wally - when you say "slider", you're talking the mainshaft, right?

I just got off the phone with Omix-Ada. I had their tech guy pull one of their T-14 mainshafts from the warehouse, it has 10 splines. They don't have a 6-spline version.

According to my Advacne adapters catalog, the I6 T14 had a 1 3/8-6 spline output shaft, while the v6 model T14 had a 1 3/16-10 spline output shaft.

I had limited my search to just CJ transmissions...
so I went to the Wagoneer/Truck parts book......
same shaft listed for I6 and V8 T14s
I've searched from 1970 up to 1975 (last used), same shaft for all T14s
other than the 2wd DJ mentioned above

After several weeks of searching the web, talking to guys in tranny and 4x4 shops, and Jeep used parts houses I've come to the conclusion that only one mainshaft was ever used in the T-14, and it has 10 splines.

So I ended up swapping in a T-15 which bolted right up to my CJ5. :)

So I've now got a freshly rebuilt T-14 for sale... :(
