I have what appears to be the Delco alternator conversion. What my question is "Is it wired correctly?" My battery is not holding charge and it just doesn't look right. I have a voltimeter in the cab.

The terminal wire off the alternator runs to the cab and the batt postive terminal runs to the solenoid. Shouldn't the battery be hooked up to the atlernator then to the solenoid for charging?

Edit: Hmmm for some reason it is not letting me upload pics. I'll try again in a bit.

Are you saying you have the one wire setup? My alternator runs through the ammeter to the solenoid. Don't know if a voltmeter would be setup the same, but battery wire to solenoid should be fine. Is your voltmeter showing low voltage when running? You say it's not holding charge? Maybe slight drain somewhere?

My voltimeter shows 14-13 volts. However, my batt is toast so I am making sure it is wired correctly. How does the charge get back to the battery to charge it?

There are again I don't know if that's the correct way to setup with a voltmeter. But with my ammeter it's inline with the wire going from the alternator to the solenoid. It just goes through the ammeter 1st and measures the amps. It's also not the only way it can be setup, it's just the simplest. Yours looks just like my setup by the way.

i've got a plug where you have that black cap with both wires from the plug attached to the post on the rear. from there a third line goes up to my fuse block and powers everything. from there the ignition switch conects the battery to the fuse block when turned to the run position. the battery should be charging if you're measuring 14 volts while running and a lower amount when just sitting.
