got the jeep back from the shop ... except when i got it home i found out it was driping oil from the bellhouseing so im takeing it back asap to have them fix it again ... they had to take off the trans so ... i imagion they messed up the rear main seal so im gonn have them fix that ... also i have to replace the hubs and all the break lines ... hard and soft ... i guess im gonna get a lesson in makeing them if i cant buy them ... and the new hubs from warn are like 75 dollers a set .. that aint too bad .. and now the problem ... it seems like its got alot of pick up and go power but it seems like the motor may be running at high rpms so i dont want to go over 30mph ... the linkage to the transfer case is broker but i played with it just to get it to go into 2 wheel and if your faceing forward and you look at the linkage threw the floor you have 2 rod things that go into the case and a pin between them and the rod on the rleft is out all the way and the one on the right is in al the way ... is that 2h ? or do i have it backwards... the otuer problem ... i have a steering dampened from skyjacker ... and it still seems lik i have a drift problems... perhaps i need 2 of them or a better one .. and it seems like the wheel has about an inch eather way left and right of play befor the steering kicks in ... perhaps bushings?... sorry for the long write up ... but you all are the best when it comes to jeeps... thanks alot

Josh, you have it in 4L, move the shift up two slots and you will have 2H.

With the shift all the way back it will be in 4L moving it forward N,2H,4H

I'll talk a bit about steering. The dampener doesn't do anything for drift. The only thing it does is help absorb some shock/dampen any sudden side-to-side movement that may be caused by potholes, etc. Sometimes it can even mask other problems. Don't bother going to a double set up.

The "drift" you have can be caused by many things. First, be sure your tire pressures are equal.
Next, check your wheel bearings, loose or worn bearings can cause drift.
Be sure tie rod ends are good, not worn out, and properly lubed.
Check the shaft between the bottom of the column and the steering box. Any play/slop in either joint? This can be a big factor in drift. If any looseness, rebuild or replace the shaft. You might even consider a premium shaft from Borgeson or Flaming River (about twice the price of a new stock replacement)

Check the steering shaft coming out of the column. Worn bushings in the column can cause that shaft to have some slop and contribute to drift.

Finally there can be play in the steering box itself. There are specific procedures on how to adjust a Saginaw steering box. It's NOT as simple as tightening the adjusting screw. Do an internet search on Saginaw Steering Adjustment, you'll find some how-to write ups to get some adjustment of the Saginaw box. Sometimes they are just worn out and you can't get them adjusted. You can check how much play is in the box by grabbing the input shaft (from the column) and turning it back and forth by hand, see how much movement you get before the shaft with the pitman arm moves. If significant, try the adjustment procedure, see if it improves.

    HTH, good luck!!

1 inch of play in the steering isn't bad. I had almost a quarter turn on mine before I replaced the box. They are like 160 bucks. Mine made a huge difference. Also make sure all of your steering components are tight. Start at the box and work your way up.

    Good luck,

1" is very good. The way I see it, the more the box is adjusted, the more it'll wear.

I just did ball joints after 21 years. They were not worn, but had a spot that practically locked due to corrosion. Now Jeep almost "understeers - relatively speaking". If I'd not had a steering stabilizer, I may have noticed sooner.
