anyone tried his yet?? i mounted up my saginaw box out of a cj ealier this week an didn't like how it sat in front of the grill and half way down the bumper so i went and pulled a revese rotation ford unit as per herm's directions. problem is, it just won't fit. moved the radiator up and removed the pet**** to get clearance on the back part, but the front portion hits the p/s fan belt just a little bit and puts the line ports right under the pump (literally sitting right underneith the seam). but i pushed on to see what it would look like anyway. the straw that broke my back was the pitman sitting roughly inches off the axle tube.

has anyone actually been able to use one of these boxes?? he shows some pics of a v6 cj5 with the box inthere, but the pump is missing....

Did you buy Herm's kit or are you trying to use a standard style saginaw setup with a reverse rotation box?

Herm's kit as pictured above uses a special bracket and mounts behind the front crossmember, rather than between the bumber and the front crossmember. IIRC, the bolt patterns on a reverse pattern saginaw is different from the standard cj saginaw box.

nope and yup. i didn't buy the kit, i'm just trying to see if it would fit, and the bolt patter is indeed different.

i'm having issues getting it to sit in a position that looks half decent. i had the box positioned right where you've shown it and it's hitting the belt going to the p/s pump an the line fittings on the box itself are sitting right underneith the seam on the pump. just trying to see if i've been spending too much time in the sun lately.

take a look at my page in my sig.. it has pics of a reverse setup that I did myself and yeah I have identified the same issues which I am working out. I am going to have the radiator notched to go around the box and the hoses I am going to use a conversion to AN style hoses so I can route them at will (and put in a cooler).

Not trying to talk you out of the reverse pattern kit, but - why go to all that trouble rather that just going with the tried-and-true method of mounting it out on the front frame rail? You mentioned that you didn't like how it sat halfway down the bumper. Are you thinking that it's too exposed? If so, you could always get a PS skid.

It just seems like the conversion has been done many, many more times that way, rather than the reverse kit. Chances are greater that someone has already faced the same problems and figured out a solution.

Re: Herm's Kit - call him up and ask him how he works around the PS pump. He's a great guy, and I'm sure he'll be more than happy to talk with you.

i know what you're saying tim... i kinda wanted to keep it looking stock but have some goodies stuffed in there. but, it's tons easier to just put it out in front of the grill anyway (which is what i switched back to) besides, i got no job and just got out of school. so spending money avoiding p/s pumps and redoing radiators ain't happening anytime soon. i just need something that doesn't take a quarter turn to make a subtle change in the direction of the jeep.

I only went with the reverse setup because I happened to have the ford Box laying there already ...
