what would be the culprit for carb hesitation? I have the edelbrock 500 CFM (Carter clone) it is a simple carb but from talking to a few others i am going to pull it and clean it out, before i do drastic measures and pull the heads. But i am haveing bad hesitation from going slow off idle, all of a suden it will jump, no gradual from idel to speed. I did notice the one gasket for the top part of the carb was ripped and half hanging into the openings, so i am thinknig that is some of the problem, jsut wondering what is the valve or circuit to closely look into. I am just asking for help with the carb, i do not have any vacuum leaks or timing issues

Try spraying a little carb cleaner/WD-40 around the base of the carb and see if it makes a difference in idling. Quick check for leaks. Also, check filters. I had the same problem with mine and I set my timing. and Then I hooked up a vacuum gage and fine tuned the timing with the vacuum gauge. It runs smooth now. My timing with the light is about a 3/8 of an inch left up -5 degrees.

it runs OK at idle, it does have a misfire, but the plugs all show spark, and they have been changed. The problem is i cant "creap" so say i am trying to crawl over a rock, i can only gun it. It seemsgo from 800 RPM to about 1600, no real medium between that when i accelorate. Everything else runs fine i can cruise down the highway with no problem

The accelerator pump in my Rochester 2GC was wasted and gave me a similar problem of bad hesitation off the start.

OK, i pulled the carb and found the bowls were off from the settings they should be, and i found the top bowl gasket was ripped so more air got into the mix than should be there. Also put the accelorator linkage in the middle of adjustment because it was in full accel mode so possibly the carb was drowning in gas. so i will install it tomorrow and see how it goes.

FWIW, a bad accelerator pump caused these same type of problems for me.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Mine was less than a year old when it went.
