I came across a hardtop (not sure what specific kind) off an a1 with doors for 250.. no rust, fresh paint, etc. now I know the a1's don't have tailgates. will that pose a problem on my 71 cj5 seeing as how it does have a tailgate? the main issue here is i want to keep the weather out.. i'm still in the process of getting around to lining my tub with something.. i just dont want the back of my tub rusting out

If there's any gap, just use some foam weather striping. If its a bigger gap, stick two pieces in the gap. ;)

I don't think there was a steel top made specifically for CJs with no tailgate. You can look at the top and see if the rear door sticks out at the bottom to mate with the rounded top lip of the tailgate. If so, then it's a top made for a tailgate and you're good to go.

Just a comment - you might be happier with a soft top. IMO the steel tops are top heavy.

I currently have a soft top / soft doors but they are in very bad shape, and i honestly like the hard top look (not sure why.. doesn't seem very jeepy to me).. but it IMHO is a good deal, and would be great for winter (not sure i'd take the hardtop trailing because as many trees that i've hit and as many ditches i've fallen in the past it would just get destroyed)

oh and from what i can remember it didn't actually have a "rear door" it just had a fold out window.. almost like a camper window :-\

kind of off topic, but how much trouble (or would it even be worth it) to install one of those aftermarket heat/ac units like i've seen in the classic cars at car shows and what not..

Got any pics of the top? We could probably help ID it.
