I want to get a winch for my CJ, I really would like to just go all out over kill and get a 12,000 pounder, but thats not worth the money I don't think and a little pricey. Besides everyone I go wheeling with has TJs or Xjs so nothing super heavy that I'd need to rescue :)

What is the best weight rating for a CJ5? Price is an object so I've been looking at the Milemarker Winches, specifically the 8000, 9500 and 12000 pounders. Anybody use these and have any input positive or negative?
Anyone every heard/used Black Mountain winches? They are really cheap and were in a 4 wheel magazine not to long ago as a little product review.

Last question, I have access to a full fab shop and professional help when I need it for free/cheap, I can just build my own mount right? I don't have to shell out a 100 bucks for a flat peice of metal with eight holes drilled in it? The winch should just sit between the frame rails right?

    Thanks in advance.

    Get an 8,000lb Warn. (M8000)

Shop around and you'll find a deal.

I have freinds with the others, and if they use them for any length of time, they will Go Warn the next time around.

8,000 is plenty of pulling power. When you compare winches, look at the horsepower ratings for the motors. Thats where you'll find he biggest differences. Get the most powerfull motor you can afford. Milemarker winches are OK. I'm using a Ramsey. Hell, if you know how to drive you'll only be using it to pull out other people anyway.
