    First, my name is ******* and I am a proud owner of a 71 CJ-5 (Dauntless V6).

Earlier this week I had to pull my stock T86 and transfer case... I opted to get T90 off a friend of mine for a few bucks because my tranny is no longer useable because the casing is cracked (i must have hit something hard.. i dunno)... but as you all probably already know the shaft on the t90 is a bit smaller than on my t86 (as well as shorter).. the t90 is really my only option at this point because of my budget situation, but in what direction do i need to go to get this t90 fitted to my dauntless v6? i was going to try to swap the shaft out of my t86, but the teeth on the gears are opposite so that's not going to work.

    thanks in advance

You need a long input shaft for the T90. And a V6 adapter. You can use the T90 case but you will need the T86 bearing retainer. You will also lose your single stick transfer case mounting location (on the T86 adapter). I have seen people drill the T90 to accept a T86 adapter, but I am not sure I would recommend it.

I am a little confused why your 71 would have a "stock T86"....should be a T14. The T14 and T90 guts are not interchangeable.
