This is what my Jeep is doing when I start it up. Earlier this year I swapped in a 231 in place of the 225 V6. I replaced the clutch disc and everything else looked good. The throw out bearing loked good and had been quiet. Everything worked fine (Quiet) after the swap until the last few weeks.
When I start the engine (after it has set for a little while) I get a very loud metal squeeling the goes away after 10 - 15 seconds (which at 5:30 in the morning seems like forever). I can get the noise to go away quicker if I rev the engine a couple times. After the noise goes away I never hear it again until I let the Jeep set for a short time and then start it up. I first thought it was a fan belt but it isn't. I am guessing that it is the throw out bearing. Any advice? Do I need to pull the tranny and replace the bearing? Is there an easy fix? :?

I had a Chevy 229 V6 that did the same thing. I'd check the belts first, then pop your head under the hood while its wailing away. I'd guess alt, H20 pump, or smog pump. Try loading the alt when its serenading you ( lights, heater etc) and see if it goes away or gets worse. My guess is that if the t/o bearing is bad it'll keep making noise, unless you have the rare, optional, self repairing bearing :D HTH

Did you figure out the noise yet? If it was the TO bearing wouldn't the noise change as you worked the clutch pedal? That would be a clue.

I would think accessories like alt., power steering pump, etc..

    Let us know.

Not yet....I agree symptoms points to the accessories but I swear the noise is coming from the rear of the engine. Pushing the clutch in and out doesn't change the sound.
I will take the belt off tonight and look at each accessory. I will post what I find tomorrow.

    Thanks
