My brothers 72 seems to flood out and stall, even on flat land. We checked the float and it looks to be adjusted within specs. One strange thing is he tells me it only does it when the fuel tank is full. How can this be? Wouldn't the fuel pressure always be the same with a full or low tank? He doesn't have the fuel filter with the two lines to the tank, I think it was a return line. Does this Jeep require the filter and return line? Is it to send excessive fuel and pressure back to the tank? We're puzzled. The engine is a 232 with a single barrel.

    Thanks,
    Tom

Just because the float level is set right it does not mean the floats are working properly. They could be sticking or sinking. You could also have a issue with the needle and seat getting stuck or are not sealing for some reason.

How do you know it is flooding out and not dying from fuel starvatiion?

Does he still have all the emmisions plumbing? If so he could be sucking fuel through the evap canister. Mine will do this on off-camber situations with a full fuel tank.

Good question. But I think it is blowing black smoke. I'll check with him. The rebuild kit did come with new foat, needle and seats that were all replaced.

"I believe he disconnected the evap canister and bypassed the connection at the tank. Also, the fuel filter no longer has the return line to the canister. We just installed a direct in-out type filter without the factory return line. Perhaps the line we disconnected was to eliminate excessive fuel pressure from the fuel pump and send it back to the tank.
