Just looking ahead a little bit here. I wanted to keep the original mil-spec front seats in this thing...until I desocverd that the drivers seat is fixed in one position. Well I am 6'1" and 240lbs, and my wife and I have, uh, differentiating opinions about where a seat should be positioned. So my question is: Is there any way to add adjusters to these seats? Or can I easily swap in something out of a later model CJ (I would prefer to stick with low-backs if possible).

The suggestion box is open...............

Is the seat frame integral to the seat? Or does the seat seperate easily from the frame?

Then you're probably best off looking for some post '65's CJ lowbacks, which are not integral to the frame and can have sliders inserted between the seat and frame.

Mike, would those bolt into my current tub without a great deal of tweaking to either the frames themselves and/or the tub floor?

Should, tubs didn't change when the seats did AFAIK.

Get the drivers side seat frame with the seat. I have found that 1 to 2 inch spacer under the front helps me be more comfortable.

Okay, now the gears are really turning.

I have some lowback buckets out of a Dodge A100 van that have sliders. Any reason whay I couldn't mount these up to some of these post '65 frames?

Does anybody have a set of these frames that they wish to part with? :?

Well, nix that idea, sort of. I went out to the barn and looked and it turns out that they don't have any sliders. Dunno why I couldn't find some more though.

    I'm sure you could.

FWIW somewhere on Mike's site he's got a write-up of what I'm planning to do (6'4" 230lbs), a wheelhouse notch on at least the drivers seat, allowing me to move the drivers seat back a bit further. I'm planning on leaving mine fixed, though. But if you do that along with tipping the seat back slightly, I've heard you can make it quite comfortable (considering).

Square tubing, black pipe, washers just about anything to get lift. Some things look and work better than others.

For example, just ending the sentance "than others" looks and works better than ending it "than others. than others." ;)

This might help some. I redone the original seat bracket to accomidate these Wrangler seat sliders. Tilted the seat backwards definately helped the legroom.

Well, I found some A100 sliders on eBay, now I guess I gotta look for some post '65 seat frames. Stay tuned!

Hi Don, I have a 1953 M38A1 and some post '65 seat frames that I was using in my 63 CJ5. Unfortunately, they won't work in the my A1 without modification. I don't remember exactly what is different about them though. After taking a few measurements and figgerin' what was needed to make those frames work, I decided to build some from scratch. Haven't done that yet.

You'll get used to that feeling pretty quickly with any modification on your Jeep! The first real "challenging project" on my '63 was mounting new seats in it. All of the stock mechanical work was a breeze. I found out right away that I would have to learn how to weld and fabricate if I planned on keeping the Jeep for any length of time.
