On Tuesday morning I ordered from Summit a Pertronix conversion for my F head. It was waiting for me when I got home tonight. After dinner I went to the Jeep to look at things and the next thing I knew I was taking the dist apart to install the kit. To my dismay it didn't fit. It was a #2541. I called Summit and they are sending out a #1548. Hopefully this will fit, meanwhile I can't drive the Jeep until it comes since the dist. is apart and I'm not putting the points back in only to take them out again in another 2-3 days. I'm hoping this addition will be worth it when it is installed.

Let us know how you end up. Mind if I ask how much Summit gets for that kit? I want one myself.

Did you ever get your correct parts? How did the installation go and how did affect performance?

The correct parts came yesterday and I installed them last night. It wouldn't start at first but then I embarrasingly remembered that it runs better with the rotor in the distributor. It seemed better but I couldn't really take it for a long run since the exhaust is loose and keeps on falling off. I'll have to fix that tonight and take it for a test run.
Installation was easy and didn't really take that long. An easy conversion as everyone here has indicated.
The correct part # for the F head is the 1548.

Actually, it depends on which distributor you have. I know this has been discussed, and I don't remember the exact distributor numbers, but there are two distinct designs and as you noted, they are NOT interchangeable.

You might try calling Pertronix directly at 800-827-3758. You will need the following info for them to recommend the correct kit:

    Distributors make
Distributor part number (located on the main housing before it tapers to the shaft)
Vehicle or Equipment make, model and year
    Engine make and size

I fixed my exhaust system and went for a ride. It seemed to be peppier but how much can you expect from 72 hp? No missing at higher RPM's but a slight popping in the exhaust on deceleration. I am very happy with the way it runs now and don't miss the need to play with points in the future. As everyone here said it was money well spent.

same thing here. Just put the petronix on my F-head(60 3B) .Easier starts, a little popping at first but not after it warms up. Thank goodness no more points. Very old exhaust -- replacing it next
