I received my Pertronix today and was about to install in the existing Delco, but had a thought. (rare but possible!) I've got a spare Delco and would like to find out if it's "mechanically sound" and install THAT distributor in the Jeep with the Pertronix. How do I do this and/ or are there machines which will tell me it's condition? Am I crazy... or not getting enough  with my diet? (probably too much time on my hands  )

Why? Flip up the hood, and install the pertronix. There are no modifications to the distributer. Then take the removed points, condenser, extra screws, and store them in the glovebox. Pertronix don't die often, but being able to revert back to the points means a lot to me.

If you really wanted to you "could" jury rig up a test using a battery, coil, dist, plug, etc, and watch the pretty sparks right there on top of your work bench.

I am still running points in mine, but I don't run a whole bunch of miles either.

Actually, I am more concerned (for no obvious reason) about the bearing condition. Since I have a spare Delco, I just thought it would be a good project to check out. ;)
