While searching for information on changing the brakes on by 59 CJ5 to 11 inch, I came across a couple of references to drilling them. Can someone explain the benefit of this and how to do it? Is it to imporve wet performance, or performance in general? Thanks.

Someone came up with a template at one time to figure out where to drill all the holes. Basically it allows any water etc between the drums and shoes to come out through the holes, greatly improving wet braking. Can't remember if it helps dry braking, but with 11" that shouldn't matter too much anyway.
