Having problems with my Carb I think? At low idle you can flood it easy if you start it wrong warm. Seems to load up and cause black smoke out of the tail pipes. Might be accelertor pump dumping tons of fuel in it not sure. Has some flat spots once in a while on acceleration when warmed up but still is getting 15 mpg?! Just does it intermitily after warmed up. Thinking of a rebuilt for $144.29 exchange or a rebuild kit for $11.58 not my best choice. Is there another carb that works better in the 1 barrle that is a newer type but not a arm and a leg to buy? Woulld the 1 barrle be worth rebuilding or are these kits just a bandaid haft way fix?? Thanks, Mark

sounds like a "hot soak" problem to me
after shut down, the fuel heats up and expands in the fuel line/carb bowl
this can pass thru the needle and seat and flood the carb
soloutions might include checking for bad/heavy/sunk float
replacing the needle and seat (there are good types and bad types; others here know)
or simply lowering the float level

Are you sure it's a 1BBL and not the rochester 2G 2 BBL? anyhow it is a simple and good carb and pretty easy to rebuild but before I did all that try the simple stuff like a filter, fuel pressure, choke setting and float level.

Engine appears to be a 1965 F85 Oldsmobile 225 1 bar at lease on the air cleaner it said Econ something F85 Oldsmobile and after matching numbers and such it came up to the 155 hp 225 1 bar they put in them. I guess I can do a search on the net to find the float settings. Mark

You have a point there. It only does it when real warmed up and it is getting hot here now. I was thinking of re routing the fuel line due to it being close to the exsaust pipe. This V6 was not a factory install. I put another heat sheild in this morning but the fuel pup is still close to the pipe. Not much room for both fuel lines and the pump around the exsaust system in these jeeps. I was thinking vapor lock too but it is acting like it is loading up not lacking fuel. Mark

It is a rochester 1 barrle, I just took the top off and it looks clean and float is good. Not sure about the level but with the top off the chamber is 1/2 full plus. I found a plug wire loose on the engine and it sounded better with it pressed on all the way. I am going to re route the fuel line away from the exsaust pipe just incase it was hot fuel causing the problem. Neadle seat looked good but I think I will get a kit to replace it and the gaskets which are not good on the bowl seal now. Mark
