PLEASE HELP!!!! I am rebuilding a 74 renegade and am in the middle of a new wiring harness. I have purchased a used tilt colum from an late-model CJ5 and the ignition switch posts are not marked as to what they are. It is a column ignition. All my manuals show the terminations and colors, but not the posts to which it actually connects. THere are no wires on the switch itself to match to, so I am totally stuck- somebody help! I am so close, yet so far from completing this project!!! :?

Here's a link to the Painless wiring installation instructions for Jeep wiring harnesses. Look around page 14-15 where they talk about ignition wiring connectors, see if that helps you.

Note that the manual is on Adobe Acrobat...

HTH, let us know if you need additional info...

If I was doing it and I could not find anyone that knew off hand I would break out the trusty digital multimeter. If you have one of course. If you do, just check the continuity between each one of the posts. There should be a post for power into the switch, an 'ON' post, a 'START' post, and sometimes an 'ACC' post. Once you find the power in post just clamp one probe to that and turn the key to the three positions and you should find what post is for what.
