F134 Starter Noise

    Every so often my starter makes a loud screaching noise when I go to start the motor. I am imagining that the starter gear is not fully engaging with the flywheel gear. After a few tries the starter will once again work normally.

    The flywheel gear is new.

    Is this a bad starter?

    Almost forgot, this is on a 52 Willys wagon/F134 (hope I am ok asking a non-cj5 question!).

    Did you match the starter gear (bendix) count to the ring gear count?

    There are 2 different ones.......

    Ring gear and starter was setup by PO. Would you know how I can check to see if things are matched up?
