I was wondering if there were any known reliability issues with the T-18 trans. I don't know much about it but would like to use it if it will hold up to a V8.

    I have a 78 CJ5 with a 350 engine and a 3 speed trans but the trans is shot.

I have access to a T-18 with a chevy bell housing already on it, should I have it rebuilt (replace bearings and check for wear while it is out) and use it or look for a TH350 auto and adapt it to my Dana 20 T-case?

Your asking about two totally different trannies. Either one would work fine behind a 350. Just depends what you want to do with it. The T18 is bullet proof and gives you the low 1st gear.

The T18 is very strong and durable. It's about as far from an automatic as you can get though - long throw, wide gate and slow shifts. Can be a workout in stop-and-go traffic.
