Apparently '74 was the transition year to bridged rockers, with some having the shaft and some bridged rockers.

The parts book says its original number is 3172301, and the note says to use 8125322. You could try searching online to see if any of the AMC parts specialists offer either of those numbers. Same for 232 and 258, seems to go back as far as 1965.

You say you're going to call some places - I would start with the AMC parts specialists like here https://www.ramblerparts.com/ - there are other specialists you could try. You could look through the vendor lists at theAMCforum.com - you'll need to join the forum. https://theamcforum.com/forum/the-trading-post-sale-wanted-vendorsshipping_forums_cat4.html
You could also ask on the six-cylinder engines forum there.

If all else fails, you could go with a later head with bridged rockers. It would be heroic (and likely expensive) - I think a machine shop could build up the worn spots on your existing shaft and surface to original size. Probably cheaper to go with a newer head.

    Here's a used one on eBay https://www.ebay.com/itm/375689727742?msockid=32aa61fe05e5608c18c87219043d61fd
You could also try search at car-part.com.

First post - welcome from Boston. By the way, you're in the wrong forum. "Early" ends with the 1971 models. You want the "Intermediate" forum.

Thanks Tim! Part #s are a big help. Shaft is broken and already looking into new head with bridges if can't come up with one.
Also is there a way that I can move this over to the intermediate forum?
